His mother, Linda Futterman-Roth is a psychoanalysis by profession. Whereas his father, Stanley Futterman is a lawyer. His parental ancestors were from Russia whereas her maternal ancestors were from Ukraine.

At the same time, he was exploring his career in the movie too. In 1991, he debuted in the movie with the movie, Daughters of Privilege.

The same year, he appeared in the movies; The Fisher King as second Punk and Big Girls Don’t Cry … They Get Even as Josh.

In 2010, he contributed his script to the series, In Treatment. Also, he happens to be the producer of the series. After that, in 2014, he produced and wrote the movie, Foxcatcher. For the movie, he was nominated for an Oscar for the second time.

Moving forwards, he produced the series the mini-series like Gracpoint and The Looming Tower.
